Kodiak Guide Service: Caribou hunts organised with the partners
Hunting a Caribou in Alaska
Kodiak Guide Service’s partners hunt Caribou this time of year in there exclusive guiding area in the Ray Mountains, an area well know for its large-bodied Caribou. This is resident herd of Caribou (not a migratory herd), which means that the Caribou will be there, but some hiking is required.
This is a 7 day backpack hunt, and can be 1X1 or 2X1, the limit is one Bull per hunter, and Caribou will be in velvet early in the season. Hunters have an excellent chance at harvesting Grizzlies and/or Black Bears on this hunt. A trophy fee will be charged if a hunter elects to harvest a Bear.
Access is via company owned light aircraft equipped with tundra tires landing on high ridges. Hunting style is spot and stalk, combined with walking ridges to locate these resident Caribou. This is an excellent value for a fully guided Caribou hunt, with the option to harvest a quality Grizzly bear in the 6.5-8.5 ft range.
We’re hunting the Central Arctic Herd of Caribou in the Southern Slopes of the Brooks Range as they migrate to the Southern edge of their range for the winter months. Over the preceding 5 seasons, this herd has passed right through our hunting area during this time period, with thousands of animals pouring right through our camps!
This 5 day, fully guided 1X1 hunt should give you plenty of time to harvest a quality Bull Caribou in some of the most beautiful mountains Alaska has to offer. Grizzlies can be harvested as a secondary animal if desired, a trophy fee will apply.
Access is via company owned light aircraft equipped with tundra tires so we can access the most difficult landing areas. Accommodations will be comfortable 8X8 Arctic Ovens with cots to protect you from the freezing nights and snowfall that can come this time of year.
Trophy Fee Outline
Hunters are encouraged to bring extra tags, as secondary animals are available as an opportunity harvest on any of our hunts. Some hunters are lucky enough to harvest two or three species during a ten day hunt. Trophy fees will be charged only for animals that are harvestedin addition to the hunters primary target species. A wounded animal counts against a hunters bag limit, and incurs a trophy fee weather recovered or not, so please shoot straight!!! Loved ones or friends are welcome to accompany hunters on their trip for an additional cost. An “observer fee” will be charged for each extra person who accompanies the hunter. If observers bring the appropriate licenses and tags, arrangements can be made ahead of time to allow observers to harvest animals on a trophy fee basis.
